Combo Breaker is a video game convention with tournament events focusing on titles from the Fighting Game genre. The convention is developed by Gaming Generations & The Hadou.
WHEN IS COMBO BREAKER?
Our 2017 event is May 26-28, Memorial Day weekend. The event is open for registered attendees 24/7 from Friday thru Sunday night.
WHERE IS COMBO BREAKER?
In 2017, Combo Breaker is hosted at the Mega Center in St. Charles, Illinois, USA. The event takes place in a spacious 35,000 sq. ft. expo center on site at the Pheasant Run Resort. Information on discounted hotel rooms at Pheasant Run Resort & other hotels is available HERE.
HOW DO I REGISTER?
You can register HERE for the event. Registration will be open until May 12, 2017, 11:59PM CST.
WHAT IS THE EVENT SCHEDULE?
Combo Breaker 2017 runs from Friday May 26 at 12 PM (Noon) until Sunday May 29 at 10 PM. Our detailed, game specific schedule will be released 2 weeks before the event. A tentative schedule will be available May 1.
HOW OLD DO COMPETITORS NEED TO BE?
You can participate in Combo Breaker tournaments at any age. Competitors under 18 will need to have forms signed by a parent or legal guardian to accept any prizing they may earn.
ARE SPECTATORS ALLOWED AT COMBO BREAKER?
Spectators are allowed and encouraged. Gaming Generations is generously offering FREE spectator badges this year so bring a friend, bring your significant other, bring your boss, or bring your entire extended family so grandma can see you take on all challengers.
ARE THERE NON-TOURNAMENT ACTIVITIES AT COMBO BREAKER?
Combo Breaker 2017 will feature an arcade, special exhibitions, exciting vendors, an artist alley, a cosplay contest, a pool party, and more. You can find out more HERE.
WILL VENDORS BE AT COMBO BREAKER?
Yes. Gaming Generations and a variety of other companies will be on site selling products and collectibles. Once our vendor list solidifies in early 2017 we will post it online. Additionally, Combo Breaker features an Artist Alley showcasing talented artisans specializing in Fighting Game characters.
IS THERE FOOD ON SITE?
The Mega Center and Pheasant Run Resort feature a variety of restaurants and fast casual eating options. Additionally, fast food, sit down restaurants, and pizza delivery are available in the area.
WHAT DOES BRING YOUR OWN CONTROLLER MEAN?
Combo Breaker requires competitors to supply their own controller for any tournaments they enter. This means you will need to bring an arcade stick, console pad controller, or inventive keyboard solution compatible with the console your tournament is scheduled to appear on. If you are not sure what makes a controller legal or illegal you can find out in the Event Rules HERE.
ARE CONTROLLER CONVERTERS ALLOWED?
Yes, but with a few limitations (for example, Cronus Device products are banned). More details are available in the Event Rules HERE.
ARE CONTROLLER MODDERS AVAILABLE?
Absolutely. Combo Breaker will feature some of the nation’s finest controller modders in attendance. Whether you are looking for a simple button swap, a multi-console mod, or something particularly extravagant our guest modders should have you covered.
WHAT IS DOUBLE ELIMINATION?
Double Elimination is a tournament format requiring a participant to lose two sets in competition before being eliminated. As a competitor, you will start the tournament in the Winner’s Bracket, and advance towards Grand Finals with each victory. Should you lose, you will find yourself in the Loser’s Bracket, a second chance area of the bracket where victories can still lead to Grand Finals. More information on bracket formats available HERE.

Combo Breaker brackets are developed by CurlyBrackets with assistance from trusted community representatives. These bracket developers are trusted by many of the world’s finest tournament events.
WHAT KIND OF PRIZING CAN I WIN AT COMBO BREAKER?
Tournament finalists win medals and monetary prizing. Tournament Champions win special event trophies and monetary prizing.
