WHAT IS COMBO BREAKER?

COMBO BREAKER is a video game convention with open-bracket tournaments focusing on titles from the Fighting Game genre. The convention is produced by COMBO BREAKER LLC & directed by The Hadou.

WHEN IS COMBO BREAKER?

May 22-24, 2020, Memorial Day weekend. The event is open for registered attendees 24/7 from Friday morning until Sunday night.

WHERE IS COMBO BREAKER?

In 2020, COMBO BREAKER will be hosted at the Renaissance Schaumburg Convention Center in Schaumburg, Illinois, USA. The event takes place in over 70,000 sq. ft. of convention center and ballroom space. HOW DO I REGISTER?

You can register for the event HERE . Registration will be open until May 4, 2020, at 11:59pm CDT.

WHAT IS THE EVENT SCHEDULE?

COMBO BREAKER 2020 runs from Friday, May 22 at 10am until Sunday, May 24 at 10pm. Our detailed, game specific schedule will be released no later than May 1, 2020. 

HOW OLD DO COMPETITORS NEED TO BE?

You can participate in COMBO BREAKER tournaments at any age. Competitors under 18 will need to have forms signed by a parent or legal guardian to accept any prizing they may earn.

DO I NEED TO BE A COMPETITOR IN ORDER TO ATTEND COMBO BREAKER?

Not at all. People who are not partaking in one of COMBO BREAKER’s 24+ main tournaments can still attend by purchasing a Community Pass. Community passes are available via COMBO BREAKER’s registration page HERE.

DO I NEED TO PURCHASE A PASS FOR MY KIDS AS WELL?

Children age 13 and under who are not competing in a main tournament do not need to purchase a Community Pass to enter the COMBO BREAKER venue. They do need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian who has purchased a pass.

MY UNDERAGE CHILD IS COMPETING, DO I NEED TO PURCHASE A PASS TO BE THEIR CHAPERONE?

Parents or guardians of competitors under the age of 18 do not need to purchase a pass if they themselves are not competing. We encourage the competitor’s parent or guardian to email us at info@combobreaker.org prior to the event so that we can help get their registration situated.

ARE THERE NON-TOURNAMENT ACTIVITIES AT COMBO BREAKER?

COMBO BREAKER 2020 will feature an arcade, special exhibitions, exciting vendors, an artist alley, a cosplay contest, and more. You can find out about additional event activities HERE.

WILL VENDORS BE AT COMBO BREAKER?

Yes. Gaming Generations and a variety of other vendors will be on site selling products and collectibles. Once our vendor list solidifies in mid-2020, we will post it. Additionally, COMBO BREAKER features an Artist Alley showcasing talented artisans specializing in Fighting Game-themed creations.

IS THERE FOOD ON SITE?

The Renaissance Schaumburg Convention Center and Hotel will feature a concessions, restaurants, fast casual eating options, and local area delivery. Additionally, fast food, sit down restaurants, and grocery stores are available in the surrounding area via short drives or rides from the hotel’s shuttle.

WHAT DOES "BRING YOUR OWN CONTROLLER" MEAN?

COMBO BREAKER requires competitors to supply their own controller for any tournaments they enter. This means you will need to bring an arcade stick, console pad controller, or custom inputs solution compatible with the platform your tournament is hosted on. If you are not sure what makes a controller legal or illegal you can find out in the Event Rules HERE.

ARE CONTROLLER CONVERTERS ALLOWED?

Yes, apart from a few exceptions. We personally recommend that you use Brooks Converters, as they are known to work well. More details are available in the Event Rules HERE.

WILL THERE BE PEOPLE ON-SITE TO MODIFY MY CONTROLLER?

Absolutely. COMBO BREAKER will have some of the nation’s finest controller modders in attendance. Whether you are looking for a simple button swap, a multi-console mod, or something particularly extravagant, our guest modders should have you covered.

WHAT IS DOUBLE ELIMINATION?

Double Elimination is a tournament format requiring a participant to lose two sets in competition before being eliminated. As a competitor, you will start the tournament in the Winners Bracket, and advance towards Grand Finals with each victory. Should you lose, you will find yourself in the Losers Bracket; a second chance area of the bracket where victories can still lead to Grand Finals. WHO MAKES THE TOURNAMENT BRACKETS?

COMBO BREAKER brackets are developed by CurlyW, with assistance from trusted community representatives. COMBO BREAKER’s bracket development team is trusted by many of the world’s finest tournaments.

WHAT KIND OF PRIZING CAN I WIN AT COMBO BREAKER?
