WHAT IS COMBO BREAKER?

COMBO BREAKER is video game convention with open-bracket tournaments focusing on titles from the Fighting Game genre. The convention is developed by Gaming Generations & The Hadou.

WHEN IS COMBO BREAKER?

Our 2018 event is May 25-27, Memorial Day weekend. The event is open for registered attendees 24/7 from Friday thru Sunday night.

WHERE IS COMBO BREAKER?

In 2018, COMBO BREAKER will be hosted at the Mega Center in St. Charles, Illinois, USA. The event takes place in a spacious 35,000 sq. ft. expo center and adjoining ballroom on-site at Pheasant Run Resort. HOW DO I REGISTER?

You can register HERE for the event. Registration will be open until May 13, 2018, 11:59PM CST.

WHAT IS THE EVENT SCHEDULE?

COMBO BREAKER 2018 runs from Friday, May 25 at 12 PM (Noon) until Sunday, May 27 at 10 PM. Our detailed, game specific schedule will be released no later than May 15. A tentative schedule will be available May 4.

HOW OLD DO COMPETITORS NEED TO BE?

You can participate in COMBO BREAKER tournaments at any age. Competitors under 18 will need to have forms signed by a parent or legal guardian to accept any prizing they may earn.

ARE SPECTATORS ALLOWED AT COMBO BREAKER?

Spectators are allowed and encouraged! Details about our 2018 Spectator passes will be available in February.

ARE THERE NON-TOURNAMENT ACTIVITIES AT COMBO BREAKER?

COMBO BREAKER 2018 will feature an arcade, special exhibitions, exciting vendors, an artist alley, a cosplay contest, and much more. You can find out about additional event activities HERE.

WILL VENDORS BE AT COMBO BREAKER?

Yes. Gaming Generations and a variety of other companies will be on site selling products and collectibles. Once our vendor list solidifies in mid 2018 we will post it online. Additionally, COMBO BREAKER features an Artist Alley showcasing talented artisans specializing in Fighting Game characters.

IS THERE FOOD ON SITE?

The Mega Center and Pheasant Run Resort feature a variety of restaurants and fast casual eating options. Additionally, fast food, sit down restaurants, and pizza delivery are available in the area.

WHAT DOES BRING YOUR OWN CONTROLLER MEAN?

COMBO BREAKER requires competitors to supply their own controller for any tournaments they enter. This means you will need to bring an arcade stick, console pad controller, or inventive keyboard solution compatible with the console your tournament is hosted on. If you are not sure what makes a controller legal or illegal you can find out in the Event Rules HERE.

ARE CONTROLLER CONVERTERS ALLOWED?

Yes, but with a few limitations (for example, Cronus Device products are banned). More details are available in the Event Rules HERE.

ARE CONTROLLER MODDERS AVAILABLE?

Absolutely. COMBO BREAKER will feature some of the nation’s finest controller modders in attendance. Whether you are looking for a simple button swap, a multi-console mod, notching, or something particularly extravagant, our guest modders should have you covered.

WHAT IS DOUBLE ELIMINATION?

Double Elimination is a tournament format requiring a participant to lose two sets in competition before being eliminated. As a competitor, you will start the tournament in the Winners Bracket, and advance towards Grand Finals with each victory. Should you lose, you will find yourself in the Losers Bracket; a second chance area of the bracket where victories can still lead to Grand Finals. WHO MAKES TOURNAMENT BRACKETS?

COMBO BREAKER brackets are developed by CurlyBrackets, with assistance from trusted community representatives. COMBO BREAKER’s bracket development team is trusted by many of the world’s finest tournaments.

WHAT KIND OF PRIZING CAN I WIN AT COMBO BREAKER?

Tournament finalists win medals and monetary prizing. Tournament champions win special event trophies and monetary prizing.
