The COMBO BREAKER Cosplay Contest returns in 2019! This annual contest looks to celebrate fighting games, and all entrants are encouraged to limit their costumes to playable characters found within the fighting game genre. With nearly 30 years of fighting game history to choose from, the options available are substantial! COMBO BREAKER’s Cosplay Contest is a free-to-enter activity that looks to highlight the skills and commitment to crafting found in the fighting game community.

This year, in an effort to give both judges and contestants a dedicated, themed area with controllable lighting to review and document their Cosplay; COMBO BREAKER has set up an arcade environment on Pheasant Run’s indoor Bourbon Street for the Cosplay Contest’s backdrop! This area will feature multiple photo environments available, including a traditional COMBO BREAKER photo backdrop for Cosplay contestants. A photographer will be provided for the entirety of Pre-Judging, ensuring all contestants get keepsake photography as part of their costume review. Pre-Judging will be available from 5pm-6:30pm at the Cosplay Contest TO Desk in the Bourbon Street town square. Please look for the Cosplay Contest sign next to the Bourbon Street TO Desk.

Selected entrants from the Pre-Judging  review will be invited on to COMBO BREAKER’s Center Stage in the Mega Center for a Placements ceremony. Progress and reference images of your Cosplay are considered helpful for the judges. If available, please consider bringing them to your pre-judging.

Contestants are encouraged to sign up in advance of the show using the form found at the bottom of this page.

Contestants will have their Cosplays reviewed on the following criteria:

  • Craftsmanship: The stitching, fabric selection, form, fit, and construction of your costume. This category includes prop-making in our contest.
  • Accuracy: How well your costume represents your character.
  • Originality: Is our costume unique? Did it require inventive crafting to realize?
  • Presence: Do you bring your character to life?
  • Weaponry Rule: Only blunted, wood, plastic, or otherwise non-lethal weaponry will be allowed as part of COMBO BREAKER’s Cosplay Contest

COMBO BREAKER’s Cosplay Contest is open to all contestants of all skill levels, but our Finalists will need to display great skill to go home awarded! All costumes will be judged singularly, with no additional favor shown to group costumery.
